MORE Leadership

The mission of MORE Leadership is to cultivate diligent and resilient leaders who exemplify success in their lives. Our aim is for all students and members of the school community to enhance their leadership abilities; however, it is essential to learn and practice the principles of leadership to achieve this goal. The essence of our MORE Leadership Program lies in educating our school community about leadership and subsequently applying the knowledge gained in practical settings.

Outline of MORE Leadership Program:
  1. Health and Leadership Class
    • Students are provided with the opportunity to take a Health and Leadership class here at the school. The purpose of this course is to assist students in becoming hard working, resilient leaders that demonstrate success and healthy behaviors both now and in the future. Students will analyze, discuss, and learn about adolescent health issues to better provide them with the tools and knowledge necessary to live a healthy lifestyle and be advocates for a healthy lifestyle. In addition, students will be taught leadership theory, concepts, and skills aligned with the school’s mission to develop our school community into better leaders.
  1. MORE Leadership Workshops
    • Throughout the school year students and members of the school community will be provided with the opportunity to participate in Leadership Workshops. Workshop sessions will further dive into the leadership theory, concepts, and skills already leaned in Health and Leadership Course, but will also allow for more practical application of what they have learned. These workshops will be done with sports teams, clubs, student council, etc.
  1. MORE Leadership Council
    • Some students will also serve on our MORE Leadership Council. The purpose of this council is to provide a direct connection between the Leadership Coordinator and the student body. Council members will reflect on the MORE Leadership Program as a whole and discuss ways it can be improved as well as things that have gone well that should continue. Council members will also lead sessions during Family Time and MORE Leadership Workshops. They will also be instrumental in assisting in the different leadership opportunities available at the school that supplement MORE Leadership.
  1. Family Time
    • This is a time students meet with their Family Time group every Friday. This is student led with the end goal of building connection among our student body, applying our topics of L.E.A.D.S., and also instilling qualities of Men and Women for All Seasons.
    • Saint Thomas More Family Time is a unique, advisory period where 9th - 12th grade groups meet in classrooms to engage in leadership topics and build school connection. During the period, student led groups discuss topics like building resiliency, leadership styles, cultural identity, and school connection. As a school we believe that building student-school connection results in a productive, communal, safe, and "family” like environment. Our priority as a school is to foster connection and graduate students that are ready to lead within diverse communities.
  1. Leadership Guest Speakers
    • Students will be giving the opportunity to come and listen to a guest speaker who will discuss different leadership topics and how they can be applied to their own lives. Students will then complete a reflection after the presentation is over.
  1. Supplemental Leadership Opportunities
    • These are nonrequired opportunities for students and members of the school community to participate in with the goal of further improving and practicing becoming a better leader
