Green Bay Packers Award Grant to Support STM Fine Arts

St. Thomas More High School proudly announces that the school has received a $5,000 grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation. This funding will support the expansion of St. Thomas More’s visual arts program.
The Packers Foundation awarded $1.5 million in annual grants to 398 Wisconsin nonprofit organizations at a luncheon in the Lambeau Field Atrium on November 21.

“This grant from the Packers Foundation allows St. Thomas More to enhance our fine arts curriculum, offering classes that better match both our students’ interests and future career opportunities in the art world,” St. Thomas More President John Hoch said. “We are incredibly grateful for the Packers’ support and the team’s continued commitment to the entire Wisconsin community.”

After surveying students in 2023 about their interest in fine arts, St. Thomas More found a significant gap in its programming. To address unmet student demand, St. Thomas More developed four new courses and significantly altered another:

  • Intro to Digital Arts: Blending technical skill-building and artistic expression, this course covers fundamental composition principles, photo editing, and graphic design, empowering students to unleash their imagination through technology.
  • Dance 101: Taught in partnership with Danceworks, this course allows students to explore multiple performance styles while boosting their agility and concentration, celebrating their individuality, and encouraging personal growth.
  • Cultural Art: This course introduces students to traditional art forms, such as textiles and ceramics, emphasizing how these crafts reflect society.
  • Music Ministry: This course empowers students to use music as a tool for spiritual expression, community building, and enhancing the worship experience.
  • Digital Photography: The school’s previous photography course, which focused on film-based cameras and darkroom development, has been updated to teach students how to operate DSLR cameras and perform digital editing.

“We're proud to award $1.5 million through our annual Packers Foundation grants this year,” Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said in a press release. “We are incredibly grateful for the work the recipient organizations carry out each and every day. The Packers are honored to recognize and support their dedication to positively impacting their communities.”

The Foundation now has distributed more than $25,797,000 for charitable purposes since it was established in 1986 by Judge Robert J. Parins, then president of the Packers Corporation, “as a vehicle to assure continued contributions to charity.”
