Art Show Detail

Jolette Moreno Martinez

My art dives deep into the obsessions that teenagers face both internally and externally. Through my sustained investigation, I’ve uncovered the internal and external parts that weight heavily on teenagers like me. These obsessions, whether they grow from societal expectations or personal anxieties, shape our experiences and choices. It’s not just about observing, it’s about living through it. They’re not just any type of concerns, they can deeply affect our well-being and sense of self.

Being part of this art class and immersing myself in this deep topic has been transformative. Since the beginning, I’ve observed each student at Saint Thomas More Highschool that faces these stages of adolescence. It’s important for everyone to recognize that everyone faces challenges, and it’s perfectly normal. My artwork serves as evidence to those experiences, showing the emotions and complexities of growing up through teenage life. In the process of creating these pieces, I’ve done a personal evaluation. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me. This journey has taught me empathy, resilience, and the importance of expressing myself through the things I’m best at. As I start a new journey after high school, I now can carry with me the realization that our struggles connect us and that it’s okay to ask for help and to find understanding.
