What is Forensics?

We’re not talkin’ about forensic science… we’re talkin’ about competitive speech! Joining the STM Forensics team presents an opportunity to boost your public speaking skills and confidence, gain experience acting and speaking, and improve communication skills at a competitive level. Students have the creative control to select a category, write or choose a piece within that category, and rehearse and compete with that piece for the entire season. With 20 versatile speech categories to choose from, there is something to appeal to anyone and everyone at STM!

What is the commitment?

  • One 20-minute, one-on-one rehearsal per week with coach
  • Independent rehearsal two-three times per week is expected
  • Saturday tournaments consisting of three “rounds” before a judge and fellow speakers in the category. There are about five of these which occur between the months of January and March.
  • Team meetings as necessary

The tournament season does not begin until second semester; however, team meetings and rehearsals begin in the beginning of November.

What are the categories?

  • Impromptu Speaking
  • Storytelling
  • Special Occasion
  • Solo Acting Serious
  • Solo Acting Humorous
  • Radio Announcing
  • Prose
  • Poetry
  • Play Acting
  • Oratory
  • Moments in History
  • Group Interpretive Reading
  • Four Minute Speaking
  • Farrago
  • Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Duo Interpretation
  • Demonstration

Congratulations to the Cavalier Powerlifting Team! On Saturday, seven Cavaliers competed in a powerlifting meet at Cudahy High School. Five of the seven athletes medaled, and two of those students are going to state!

“Coach Litscher and I are proud of these student athletes for the hard work and dedication to training," said powerlifting coach and STM science teacher Mike Fricke. "Strength training has a unique way of instilling confidence and growth in young men and women, and in the end that is the most important outcome anyone would want of our students at St. Thomas More High School.”

Stay tuned for more updates on our powerlifting team as some of them compete in Germantown in February and then at the state meet in Appleton on March 2 and 3.
