St. Thomas More High School is pleased to introduce Reyes Perez (STM ’15) as our new dean of students. Perez will begin the role on July 5.

Under the direction of the principal, the dean of students ensures that St. Thomas More offers a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all students. The dean of students handles crucial administrative tasks and duties, allowing teachers to provide uninterrupted learning opportunities for their students.

“As dean of students, I will work with our teachers and staff to create a school culture where every student feels safe and welcomed,” Perez said. “I also hope to be a positive resource for our student body, helping them grow into the best versions of themselves.”

Most recently, Perez taught at Hopkins Lloyd Community School in Milwaukee. Before becoming a teacher, he worked at Running Rebels, a youth development and social services nonprofit located on Milwaukee’s north side.

Perez graduated from St. Thomas More in 2015 and has served as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers boys’ soccer team since 2018.

“The idea of returning to STM was the primary thing that attracted me to this position,” explained Perez, who played on the 2014 boys’ soccer team that made it to the state championship game. “The memories I cherish the most from my time at STM are the ones I made spending time with my friends in the cafeteria, the classroom, and during extracurriculars. I look forward to being back in the hallways, but this time as a staff member.”

“As an alumnus and a lifelong resident of Milwaukee’s south side, Reyes brings a cultural experience that will make it easy for him relate to our students,” said Patrick Idstein, who will become St. Thomas More’s principal on July 1. “Being bilingual, he will also be able to communicate with Spanish-speaking parents in their native language, helping them feel more comfortable and welcomed at the school.”

Perez holds a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Outside of work, he enjoys attending all types of Wisconsin sporting events and spending time with his family.

Nicolle Schroeder, who served as dean of students for the 2021-22 school year, has accepted the principal position at Wauwatosa Catholic School.
