Jed Wardecke is in his first year as the Campus Minister at St. Thomas More. Before coming to STM, he immersed himself in music, running his own studio teaching piano. Through this experience, Wardecke discovered that his dedication to teaching went far beyond any specific subject or instrument.

While pursuing his master’s degree in music at Cardinal Stritch University, Wardecke worked as a graduate assistant in the school’s Mission Office, where he helped plan Masses, prayer services, and retreats for students. He especially enjoyed being able to use his musical talents to facilitate daily Mass. Wardecke’s experience at Cardinal Stritch was transformative and encouraging, and solidified his decision to convert to Catholicism.

Through his wife, STM theology teacher Anne Gates Wardecke (STM ’11), Jed had multiple opportunities to visit STM even before he joined the staff. Jed regularly assisted Anne and her colleagues with retreats and supported our student-athletes during competitions. He slowly became more familiar with students, faculty, and the environment at STM, and when the campus minister position became available, he jumped at the opportunity.

In his role as Campus Minister, Wardecke still utilizes his love of music. Guided by his own experience, he encourages student musicians to share their gifts with the community, especially at Mass. As he continues through his first year at STM, Wardecke looks forward to strengthening the school’s identity as a Catholic institution and helping students reflect on how the service and events they perform at STM will help form their own personal faith journeys.
