Jessie Ramirez (TM ’07): Engineer and 2007 Alumnus Joins STM Board of Directors

October 26, 2022: Jessie Ramirez (TM ’07) has been elected to the St. Thomas More High School board of directors. A 2007 alumnus and the founder of two successful engineering firms, Ramirez brings experience in structural engineering and entrepreneurship, along with a passion for St. Thomas More, to the school’s board.

“St. Thomas More has given so much to me, and I wanted to give back,” Ramirez said of his decision to join the board. “If I can do something to improve the life of even one student here, then I want to take my time to do that.”

Although new to the board of directors, Ramirez is no stranger at St. Thomas More. Ramirez has been a member of the school’s facilities committee since 2021 and served as a Cavalier soccer coach from 2012 to 2020.

As a St. Thomas More student, Ramirez captained the 2006 Cavalier squad that captured the school’s only state soccer championship. He still remembers Mike Guerrero coming off the bench to score twice in the sectional final and the incredible camaraderie shared among his teammates, especially the celebratory bus rides home after hard-fought victories.

Ramirez also excelled academically at St. Thomas More, and he credits Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for helping him develop a strong foundation. He was part of the first PLTW class at St. Thomas More and completed the entire engineering curriculum while a student. It was in a PLTW class that Ramirez first heard about civil engineering.

“Those classes really engaged your mind as an engineer. You had to learn how to solve problems and think outside the box. Had I not been in that program, I don’t know if I would be here today.”

A natural entrepreneur — he recalls selling candy and Pokémon cards to his grade school classmates — Ramirez now runs two companies: AR Engineering and JR Solutions, which provide a wide variety of engineering and construction services. He believes that his hands-on experience as a laborer, along with his academic background, set his companies apart, allowing him to create economical, streamlined solutions that construction workers can easily implement at the project site.

“It’s not always about the money; it’s about helping the client. I go out into the field and work hand-and-hand with them to get the job done as quickly as possible. That’s the type of engineer I am. I provide something that’s streamlined and that will work in the field.”

Ramirez holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Comprised of dedicated volunteers from all walks of life, the St. Thomas More High School Board of Directors plays a crucial role in the success and vitality of the school. Serving as the school’s most trusted advisors, the Board of Directors helps form school policy, adopt changes and new initiatives, and offer their professional and personal expertise to further the mission of St. Thomas More High School.

Jessie Ramirez (TM ’07) did not become an actor but has been highly successful nonetheless.
