GivingTuesday to Raise Funds for Student Experiences and Teachers’ Wish List Items

November 22, 2022: On Tuesday, November 29, St. Thomas More High School will join nonprofits across the world participating in GivingTuesday, the global day of giving and generosity. After the tremendous success of last year’s GivingTuesday campaign, St. Thomas More will again offer donors the opportunity to directly fund items and equipment requested by our teachers and coaches.

St. Thomas More supporters can visit stmwishlist22.givesmart.com to view items selected personally by our teachers and coaches. By donating the cost of items from our Wish List, supporters will “purchase” this equipment, service, or experience.

Some of the items available for purchase include a pug mill for our art classes, wireless EKG sensors for our biomedical science classes, and weightlifting equipment for our fitness center.

“St. Thomas More’s GivingTuesday campaign gives donors the opportunity to enhance the student experience while making a direct investment in our school and our students,” St. Thomas More President John Hoch (TM ’87) said. “Our donors were incredibly generous during last year’s campaign, and we hope they will continue to support our students and educators this GivingTuesday.”

This year, donors can also sponsor student experiences, including participation in academic field trips and attendance at Cavalier playoff games. Funds contributed to these experiences will help offset admission fees and transportation costs associated with the event, allowing more students to share in these memorable moments.

“Being a Cavalier fan has always been a huge part of the STM student experience, but in the last year especially we have seen how large crowds at sporting events can bring the school community together and help the players perform to the best of their ability,” Assistant Athletic Director Katlyn Putney (STM ’10) said. “It can sometimes be hard for student fans to get to games, so it is a big goal of mine to be able to offer free rides and free tickets to playoff games for any student who wants to come cheer on their classmates. You can help us achieve that goal by supporting our Fan Bus and Student Ticket items on the Wish List.”

Immediately following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 to celebrate philanthropy and community, harnessing the collective power of individuals, neighborhoods, and organizations to encourage giving and to highlight radical generosity worldwide. At least $2.7 billion was raised on GivingTuesday 2021 in the United States alone, with 35 million adults participating by offering gifts of time, voice, skills, goods, and money, as well as countless acts of kindness inspired by the movement.

St. Thomas More has participated in the GivingTuesday movement since 2014, with donors contributing nearly $100,000 in total, including over $35,000 in 2022. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our alumni, parents, and other supporters, St. Thomas More has met its GivingTuesday fundraising goal each year.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
