GivingTuesday Campaign to Raise Funds for Teachers’ Wish List Items

November 22, 2021: On Tuesday, November 30, St. Thomas More High School will join nonprofits across the world participating in GivingTuesday, the global day of giving and generosity. This GivingTuesday, St. Thomas More will offer donors the opportunity to directly fund items and equipment requested by our teachers for their classrooms.

Supporters can visit stmwishlist.givesmart.com to view items selected personally by St. Thomas More teachers. By donating the cost of items from our Teachers’ Wish List, supporters will “purchase” this equipment for that teacher’s classroom, allowing our educators to strengthen their lesson plans and better equip their students with the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to achieve lasting success.

“This year’s GivingTuesday campaign allows supporters to make direct investments in our classrooms,” St. Thomas More President John Hoch (TM ’87) said. “We asked teachers of every subject what they needed to enhance the educational experience for their students, and through GivingTuesday, we hope to support their requests.”

Some of the items available for purchase include a laser engraver for our S.M.A.R.T. Manufacturing class, graphing calculators for our math classes, and NeuroMaker Brain-Computer Interfaces for our Biomedical Innovations capstone course.

“GivingTuesday complements St. Thomas More’s yearlong campaign to celebrate our talented teachers and the immeasurable impact that they have on our students,” St. Thomas More Director of Development & Alumni Dan Steffes (TM ’03) explained. “Whether they graduated from Pio Nono, St. Francis Minor, Don Bosco, or St. Thomas More, our alumni often credit their iconic, passionate teachers for helping to mold them into the people they are today. Current and future generations of St. Thomas More students deserve this same experience, and that starts with supporting our educators with their classroom needs.”

Immediately following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 to celebrate philanthropy and community, harnessing the collective power of individuals, neighborhoods, and organizations to encourage giving and to highlight radical generosity worldwide. At least $2.47 billion was raised on GivingTuesday 2020 in the United States alone, with 13 percent of the adult population participating by offering gifts of time, voice, skills, goods, and money, as well as countless acts of kindness inspired by the movement.

St. Thomas More has participated in the GivingTuesday movement since 2014, with donors contributing over $60,000 in total, including over $20,000 in 2020. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our alumni, parents, and other supporters, St. Thomas More has met its GivingTuesday fundraising goal each year.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
