Regional Champions

The Green Knights of the hardwood had their first success for Head Coach Tom Sager, winning their first regional title after going 13-7 in the regular season (10-6 in conference). A good mix of players, including returning letterman Mark Redman and sharp-shooter Mike Fons, who was named to the Second Team All-Conference, were joined by seniors Mike Sager, Paul Zelazek, and Bob Dunn, and junior Jim Marx, and helped the team earn its Cinderella status. Bosco earned its first trip to the state tournament since 1954 despite looking up all season at Messmer, Pius XI, and St. Kate’s. Bosco won close games against Bay View (64-62), St. John’s Cathedral (47-45), and at rival MUHS (48-45) while walloping Catholic Memorial (85-62) and Francis Jordan (88-66). Future stars Gary Grzesk and Tom Mihm started to make names for themselves.
