Catholic Conference Co-Champions

Head Coach Jim Haluska earned the first of many conference titles, splitting the hardware three ways with Marquette and Pius XI. Line coach Andy Stefan joined the staff, beginning a lifelong stewardship alongside Haluska. Quarterback Ken Bellanti was the driving force hind this team, which dropped a 7-0 game to Pius at the season’s end, getting to the Pope’s 20-yard line as time expired. Fullback Tom Myszewski was not only a force on the ground but also caught touchdown tosses from Bellanti. Don Race, Rich Migacz, Mark Roleau, and Mike Sargent played a part in the success. Sophomore Dan Gaynor was a welcome addition to this team, who helped the team defeat arch-rival St. Kate’s on homecoming in front of more than 3,500 people at South Stadium.
