Catholic Conference Champions
The 1954 Dons made new coach Don Fleming’s debut a success with a 10-2 Conference record, besting Racine St. Catherine’s and Catholic Memorial our for the championship. A combination of outstanding pitching, led by Ted Brzenk and Gene Lyskawa, and superior hitting with eight .300 hitters in the line up made the Dons tough to beat. Top hitters included Schroeder (.500), Brzenk (.432), Brozynski (.359), Pikulik (.350), Baldewicz (.343), Marenda (.326), Fieber (.320), and Stencel (.314). During the season the hard hitting Dons beat Messmer (23-3) and Notre Dame (12-3). Ted Brzenk beat Catholic Memorial twice with a three hitter (4-0) and his first career no hitter (2-0) on his way to a 6-0 record.
