Alumni Basketball Tournament
STM Gymnasium
Saturday, November 24th and Sunday, November 25th, 2018 – 10:00 a.m.

Each November, dozens of former Thomas More basketball players reunite with their old teammates to compete in the Alumni Basketball Tournament. Competition is always high and all teams have a great time. Cost is $20 per player and each team is guaranteed to play at least two games.

25th Annual Alumni Basketball Tournament

November 25-26, 2017

The 25th installment of the Alumni Tournament entertained for the entire weekend. Fourteen teams and over 100 alumni came back to visit St Thomas More and battle their friends in basketball.  Special thanks go out to Campbell’s bar for once again hosting the post-game party.  After all expenses were paid, all proceeds went directly to the Cavalier Athletic Booster Club.

The Saturday pool play games usually are for gauging every team’s strengths after another year of getting older.  It is also where young teams learn what a rich basketball history the school has as well as get to know some players who can still play at a high level.  This year two teams were able to make it to the Sunday playoffs for the first time.   The Class of 2014 led by Damien Stewart and the newly graduated class of 2017 both put in fine efforts to get themselves to the quarterfinals.

However what those younger teams learned is that there has been a pecking order in this tournament for the past five years.  In that time span the same four teams have made the semi- finals every year.  Those teams were the class of 2012, 2006, 2002, and 1998.   This year that changed slightly as the 4 time champion class of 1998 combined with the 1 time champion of 1995.  Both teams were very light on numbers and decided to pool their strengths to form the oldest team in the tournament.

In the Semi-finals the combo classes of 1995/1998 were able to cruise past Tony Mane and his class of 2006.  In the other semi, the class of 2012  and Trevor Wattawa gave defending champ 2002 all they could handle, but Kyle Knipple and Anthony Mlachnick were too much as 02 won in overtime 39-37.

In the Championship game 1995/1998 raced out to an early lead and were up 14 points at the half.   The class of 2002 fought back in the 2nd half but was not able to catch the older alumni.   The combo team 1995/1998 were able to mesh well together and played as though they had been teammates for years.   They were able to win the Championship 49-41 giving the guys from 1998 their 5th Championship and the guys from 1995 their 2nd.

Class of 1998 Players
– Brian Krysiak, Richie Romero, Don Lichucki, Dave Paszkiewiez, and Dan Hafemann

Class of 1995 Players –  Joe Goodman, Joe Shokotz, Dylan Bluhm, Mike Busateri, Jon Wrench and Jason Kawczynski

Congrats to the combination class of 1995/1998 and to all who came out to play. See you all again next year!

St. Thomas More High School

Father Christopher (TM '95) visited Lumen Christi yesterday! Read the full post below.

Lumen Christi Catholic School
Today our second grade students welcomed Father Christopher Klusman into their classroom. Father Christopher is the Chaplain at St. Thomas More High School, and is one of only 13 deaf priests in the world. The students learned a lot about Father Christopher's experience as a deaf child and priest. They also shared with him their "Hail Mary" song which they have been learning to sign for both the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and their First Communion.
Read more about Fr. Christopher at It was truly a blessing to have him share his story with our students. See the comments for some pics from the visit.

Support STM this #GivingTuesday! On Tuesday, November 27, STM will join the global non-profit community by participating in Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving. Because of your support for last year’s Giving Tuesday campaign, STM was able to purchase interactive Smart Boards for each of our classrooms, and this year, we are asking for your support to upgrade technology in the Jerry Huennekens Gymnasium. For this year’s campaign, STM is requesting donations to purchase a high-definition projector and large display screen for the gymnasium, drastically improving the quality of our all-school assemblies and Masses. As you can see in the video below from last week’s Veterans Day assembly, our out-of-date projector and small screen do not match the high caliber of our speaker system or the size of our typical audience. Will you support STM this #GivingTuesday, helping us raise at least $6,300 for these much-needed improvements? ... See MoreSee Less
