This semester I explored the idea of abnormal psychology and how to portray altered views of reality through various forms of visual media. The media I chose to focus on helped further the concepts of my pieces, collaging to create an overwhelming feeling, oil pastels to emphasize the idea of blurred reality, and paints for vivid imagery. In contrast to my last semesters work, this semester I focused strongly on the use of color and the psychology of colors. The psychology of color doubles as both in furthering the individual pieces and contributing to the theme that connects the body of work.
My ideas and concepts in the work focused mainly obsessions, psychosis, and hallucinations. I chose to focus on these ideas in specific because of my personal fascination with psychology, especially abnormal psychology, because it allows you to get into the mind of someone else. I believe there is a lot of beauty in the differing ways people view reality. I wanted to portray these concepts in a way that accurately represents them and shows the beauty in it without romanticizing them. This semesters work builds of my first semester of work in that it still applies to the idea of beauty in scary things.
