Principal’s Perspective: Opportunities in the New Year

I would like to start by wishing all of you a Happy New Year. I hope that you could relax and spend quality time with family and friends over the holidays. At the beginning of every year many of us are determined to create New Year resolutions. This is done with the intent of recreating ourselves and hoping for better things to come in the new year. I find this to be a refreshing experience, but at the same time I question, why do we only do this at the beginning of the year? Can’t we better ourselves and the world around us every day? Why do we wait to that last fleeting moment of the year to make these changes? We must realize that every day is gift from God. With the rising of every sun is an opportunity to start over. The lord said,

“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.”
-Revelation 21:5 (ESV)

Each day we can seek new opportunities, meet new people, challenge ourselves to overcome fears, wipe the slate clean, and forgive ourselves or others. Let’s take all the gifts that have been bestowed upon us and live every day to the fullest. We will have bad days and challenges on our journey, but don’t ever let those challenges prevent us from making the changes that are right for us. Commit to making positive changes in your life, not just at the beginning of the New Year. God is with you.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
-Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

May God bless you all in 2018. I pray God brings you peace and abundant gifts that make your faith in him grow with each and every day. Make each day a time of growth and change. Do not wait for the New Year to make changes. Today is your day. Go forth and be the change you want to see. God Bless.

Congratulations to the Cavalier Powerlifting Team! On Saturday, seven Cavaliers competed in a powerlifting meet at Cudahy High School. Five of the seven athletes medaled, and two of those students are going to state!

“Coach Litscher and I are proud of these student athletes for the hard work and dedication to training," said powerlifting coach and STM science teacher Mike Fricke. "Strength training has a unique way of instilling confidence and growth in young men and women, and in the end that is the most important outcome anyone would want of our students at St. Thomas More High School.”

Stay tuned for more updates on our powerlifting team as some of them compete in Germantown in February and then at the state meet in Appleton on March 2 and 3.
