STM Names Jimmy Litscher (TM ’06) as Next Head Football Coach

January 31, 2024: St. Thomas More High School is pleased to announce Jimmy Litscher (TM ’06) as the school’s next head football coach. Litscher, who has taught health and fitness at St. Thomas More since 2012, becomes the tenth head coach in the program’s history.

“Jimmy cares very deeply about not only the athletic development of our students but their personal development as well,” St. Thomas More Athletic Director Katlyn Putney (STM ’10) said. “He believes in empowering students to become leaders and has shown time and time again what the power of hard work and camaraderie can achieve.”

 

Litscher first joined the Cavalier football coaching staff in 2011. In addition to teaching and coaching, Litscher also leads the school’s strength and conditioning program and its MORE Leadership program, which offers students opportunities to develop into leaders who encourage and set an example for their peers. This mentality guides his coaching philosophy.

 

“The mission of our football program is to build hardworking, resilient leaders who demonstrate success in all aspects of their lives,” Litscher said. “That will drive everything we do both on and off the field.”

 

As a St. Thomas More student, he played basketball, football, and baseball while excelling academically. He received the prestigious Arnold J. Bollis Award (now known as the Norb Wishowski Award), which honors student-athletes who excel in the areas of Christian discipleship, character, leadership, academic success, service, and athletic ability.

 

Litscher earned his Bachelor of Arts in physical education and health from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he played linebacker and earned first-team all-conference recognition. He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a past recipient of the Wisconsin Strength Coach of the Year award, presented by the National High School Strength Coaches Association.

 

He lives in Milwaukee with his wife, Melannie, and their two children. They are members of St. Veronica Congregation in the city’s Tippecanoe neighborhood.

 

“I want to express my gratitude for all the coaches I have had the opportunity to play for and coach with throughout my time as a student-athlete and an educator,” said Litscher, who replaces Tom Handziak, St. Thomas More head football coach since 2018. “I also want to thank all the colleagues and teammates I worked and played with over the years. I lastly would like to thank all the students, both past and present, I have taught and coached over the years. I am grateful for all your support, and I look forward to continually learning and growing with this new opportunity.”
