Why I Give: Jim Kitzinger (TM ’75)

In God’s eyes, we are all created equal. Sadly, our society is not as accommodating. The talents that each child is given and the circumstances that each child is born into dictates one’s starting position in life and the advantages available on life’s journey.

In our opinion, education is the great equalizer – the most effective tool to level the playing field. This view – education being the springboard for opportunity – was a core message that our parents ingrained in our very beings. This is why we invest our philanthropic capital in education, primarily K-12. I have spent more than 40 years investing capital to help businesses grow, and when done correctly, reaping the rewards of those investments.

Our primary philanthropic investment vehicle is St. Thomas More. From personal experience, I see this investment providing the highest and best return structure available to advance individual and communal opportunity and prosperity. The economist in me calls this “the highest marginal utility investment available.” The south sider in me calls this the “best bang for my buck.”

I encourage others to review the philanthropic investment landscape and to invest your capital at St. Thomas More; the returns are terrific.
